We delve deeper with illusionist Miguel de Lucas into magic as a bridge to personal improvement and happiness. Because sometimes we can make the impossible possible, you just have to know how to take the path.
The writer Roald Dahl said that a little magic is enough to go a long way. Miguel de Lucas, professional illusionist, lecturer and television presenter, has not only made magic his way of life, but is also a pioneer in combining this art with the field of personal growth.
Magic is nothing more than a bridge to make the impossible possible. It is an innovative mechanism full of possibilities to reach our best version. A more powerful, healthy and of course happy version. This is what Miguel aspires to make us understand in his book There is a magician in you .
In our interview with him we discovered that in the complex scenario of everyday life, resources such as magical thinking, visualization or motivation, far from being simple tricks, act as authentic facilitators to achieve well-being.
“The big trick is to do everything with enthusiasm and nothing out of obligation.”

Illusionist, expert in emotional communication, National Magic Award in Mentalism… Many will be familiar with the figure of Miguel de Lucas as the presenter of the program Un país mágico (A Magical Country) which is broadcast on Sundays on La 2 of Spanish Television. What perhaps not everyone knows is that he has published a book to allow us to face the journey of life through magic.
We could say that it is quite an experience to have one of the best illusionists of the moment help us to discover nothing less than that inner magician that we carry within us, and that can do so much for us.
Originality, inspiration, techniques, life advice, personal stories… In There’s a Magician in You we discover how magic and coaching align to raise the curtain on personal improvement and happiness.
This is our interview with Miguel de Lucas.
Q. First of all, we would like to know how your interest in magic was born, when did it come into your life?
I started learning magic as an illusion when I was very young, influenced by the Aragonese magician Pepe Carrol, whom I used to watch on television in his numerous programs. I was very struck by his special way of communicating. Later, I came to Ana Tamariz’s school in Madrid, and from then until now.
Q. Magic and personal growth, how are they related?
Magic is undoubtedly the most effective means of making possible those things that at first seem impossible , and hence that magical relationship.
The first step to achieving something, whether on a personal or professional level, is to visualize it and imagine it as possible, and that is what we do every day with magic.
Q. What led you to write There’s a Wizard in You ?
I had a great need to tell what was happening to me and share my experience with anxiety and depression with everyone , thinking that the messages collected in the book could help many people. Sometimes, when I close my eyes, I dream that this book is helping people, at least to be brave and share in a natural way the fact of going to the psychologist or psychiatrist.
Q. Your book is an invitation to take a magical journey into our inner selves, certainly an interesting proposition. What do we need to bring as luggage?
I think our own dreams and that inner magician who is full of attitude and aptitude. Anything that helps us make the journey happier. Everyone knows what they should take, but it is clear that people are very similar in the most important things, and affection , love and above all enthusiasm will help us a lot to feel good on this journey of life.
Q. For those who don’t know the book, what will they find in it?
A series of techniques, resources and tools from the world of illusionism that can be applied to both our personal and professional lives. Also a very personal story, which like everyone else has its bright and dull aspects. A story told from the most sincere perspective of life.
Q. It is a very sincere and personal book, because you talk about yourself and your process of personal improvement. With this in mind, would you say that it is possible to overcome anxiety and depression and smile again?
Of course. We are genetically programmed to survive, and overcoming illnesses is survival. And if I did it, anyone can do it. Of course, reading the book can guide you and even inspire you, but no one better than you can help you leave a grey world in search of a world full of colours.
Q. One of the most important keys to life that you mention in your book is perseverance. Why? How does it influence us and how can it help us?
It is the ability to keep going, keep going and keep going until we get what we want. Obviously, with a good action plan behind it, power without control is not very useful. This value can help us feel good about ourselves, because we can be aware of achieving things and that makes us feel very good . Lastly, it is a value that we can rely on to influence our objectives.
Q. And what about positivism? Do you think that a positive outlook is essential in life? It is a very criticised approach nowadays, so we would like to know to what extent or if you think there are limits.
For me it is, but I understand that there are critics in this world of personal development. I understand positivism as perceiving, and above all feeling, the glass is half full, and I don’t think there is anything wrong with this, quite the opposite. I think that from this perspective it is easier to face the adventures that life has in store for us.
Q. How to connect with the best version of ourselves?
Well, there are many ways. I’ll tell you how I do it. It’s a difficult but very exciting exercise. It consists of thinking until you manage to feel that there is something inside you that pushes you to achieve your goals, that there is the possibility of gaining strength and drive when you feel that you have nothing left.
You can achieve it with meditation , sport, but above all with a good action plan full of realism and motivation. Once you achieve your goals, that better version of yourself will continue to grow until it becomes unstoppable.
Q. Can you tell us any tricks for living life with magic?
There are some small tips that are interesting. I am going to tell you some of the ones that help me. It helps me to be aware of aspects related to emotions and intelligence, for example: “when emotions are high, intelligence is low.” This means that sometimes we make decisions when emotions are running high, and we can make mistakes. In this sense, in the book I reveal some of the tips that I find most interesting and special.
Q. Finally, can you recommend a song to help us live our days with excitement and magic?
Without a doubt, Shinova’s Intact Smile . It’s a song to life, to positivity, and it really gets me going. I hope it does for you too.
